General Questions

1. Why are you going out of business?

We announced on August 12, 2020, that we filed a motion seeking court approval to begin an orderly wind down of our operations as soon as reasonably possible. In partnership with our financial and legal advisors, we engaged in a thorough analysis of all available alternatives before deciding on this course of action. Ultimately, due to the combination of a challenging retail environment and the impact of COVID-19, we and our advisors determined that we will wind down the business.

Please know that this was an extremely difficult decision and is deeply disappointing for all of us at Stein Mart. We have loved serving you over the years and are so grateful you chose to shop with Stein Mart. During the closing process, we will be pleased to continue serving you.

2. Are all stores closing?

Yes, all stores will eventually close. Updated store location information can be found on the store locator page at

3. When will stores close?

We anticipate all stores will close by the fourth quarter of 2020. Closing dates will vary by store.

4. Will your website remain operational?

All liquidation sales will take place in stores only. will remain up to promote the liquidation sales event, find your nearest store and provide answers to frequently asked questions.

Stores will continue their going out of business sales until each store's inventory has been liquidated.


1. What are your store operating hours?

In general, we are operating Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 7PM and Sunday from 11AM to 6PM. Hours of operation may vary by store. Visit the store locator on for store hours at your nearest store.

2. Can I still use Stein Mart Gift Cards that I purchased?

Gift cards can be used thru September 21, 2020. All gift card balances expire on September 22, 2020.

Consistent with the Order of the Bankruptcy Court, Case No. 3:20-bk-2387, United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, Stein Mart was authorized" to maintain and administer the Customer Programs and honor any related pre-petition obligations in the ordinary course of business and consistent with past practice, as necessary and appropriate in the Debtors' business judgment," including honoring gift cards through September 21, 2020. As of September 22, 2020, Stein Mart is no longer honoring gift cards or merchandise credits.

If you have a Stein Mart gift card or merchandise credit that you did not use or redeem by September 21, 2020, you are entitled to file a proof of claim by October 21, 2020, the Bankruptcy Court-approved bar date deadline, in Stein Mart's chapter 11 bankruptcy case. The place for filing and instructions for filing a proof of claim may be found at, the website of Stein Mart's noticing/claims agent. The filing of a proof of claim does not automatically mean that you have an allowed claim or assure that you will recover any money on account of your claim in the Bankruptcy Case.

3. Can I still make returns to the stores?

Merchandise purchased prior to August 12 can be returned through September 12. All sales during the going-out-of-business sale are final.

4. Are all sales final?

All sales during the going-out-of-business sale are final.

5. Are any of your customer or store policies changing?

Yes. The updated policies below apply to purchases made in stores:

a. Return Policy

All sales are final on merchandise purchased during our going out of business sale. Purchases made between June 12 and August 12 can be returned through September 12.

b. Tender

We accept cash and credit cards; Stein Mart gift cards and merchandise credits (through 9/21/20); and unexpired Stein Mart Reward Certificates (through 9/12/20). Stein Mart gift cards and merchandise credits will be deemed to have no value after September 21, 2020. Stein Mart Reward Certificates will be deemed to have no value after September 12, 2020.

We will not issue cash refunds for Stein Mart gift cards, Stein Mart Reward Certificates and merchandise credits.

Coupons and other additional discounts are no longer valid.

f. Phone Orders and Merchandise Holds

Stores will no longer allow phone orders or merchandise holds.

g. Merchandise Pickup Policy

Effective August 12, all merchandise that is purchased for in store pick up must be picked up by August 12. No exceptions will be made.

h. Shipping from Stores

Due to the nature of the closing sale, stores will not be able to accommodate shipping in-store products to customers.

6. Will I still be able to use my employee discount?

Yes. The employee discount will be given throughout the liquidation sale.

Yes, orders placed on on or before August 12 will be fulfilled and shipped. However, there may be exceptions, so watch your email for the status of your order.

3. Will there be any changes to amount of time to receive an online order?

Due to the impact of COVID-19 and order volume due to our going out of business sale, orders may be temporarily delayed beyond our standard shipping times. If your order says that it is "in process," it means we are putting your order together and it has not been sent to UPS. Once UPS receives the order and scans it into their system, you will receive updated tracking info.

4. Will I still be able to return items purchased from How? and instore purchases made between June 12 and August 12 can be returned to a store through September 12

Stein Mart Credit Cards & Rewards

1. Can I still use my Stein Mart credit card or Stein Mart Mastercard® at Stein Mart?

Yes, you can still use your card at open Stein Mart stores, or wherever Mastercard is accepted if you have a Stein Mart Mastercard®.

2. Can I still apply for a Stein Mart credit card?

No. We are no longer accepting applications for any new Stein Mart credit card accounts.

3. Do I have to pay my Stein Mart credit card balance?

Yes, you are still responsible for the outstanding balance. Feel free to check your most recent monthly billing statement to see the amount due. You can also access your account and make payments on line at

6. Are there any changes to my Stein Mart SMart Rewards program?

As of August 13, 2020, customers will no longer earn rewards for their purchases, nor will any additional SMart Cash certificates be issued. Unexpired Stein Mart SMart Cash reward certificates will still be accepted in Stein Mart stores, but must be redeemed by their original date of expiration or September 12, 2020, whichever date comes first. 7. When is the last statement cycle to print SMart Cash reward certificates?

Customers stopped earning rewards, and no additional certificates were issued, as of August 13, 2020.

After the Company closes, Stein Mart will wind down and there will be nobody to address such concerns. All sales during the going-out-of-business sale will be as-is and final.
